An aircraft may be registered only by and in the legal name of its owner. An aircraft is eligible for U.S. Registration if it is not registered in another country and it is owned by an individual who is a United States citizen or company organized under the laws of the U.S. or a State laws.
Registration of aircraft means registration with N-Number for ownership by individual person or company, regardless of their current citizenship and/or place of domicle. This type of ownership (Aircraft Owner Trust) allows anyone directly or indirectly own their US-registered aircraft. By using this method you can save on re-registration taxation process.
We will start with most common type - Aircraft Owner Trust Services. Aircraft Owner Trusts are preferred vehicles for aircraft financing. By appointing a U.S. trustee, aircraft purchasers, both U.S. citizens and non-citizens, can purchase and register their aircraft with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The aircraft owner trust holds the title to the aircraft or ownership of another special purpose entity and can register it with the FAA for the exclusive use of the beneficiary/purchaser, who continues to operate and maintain the aircraft. You can register an aircraft to a single applicant as trustee, or to several applicants as co-trustees.
US law requires that all aircraft be registered in the name of United States citizens. However, the FAA has created means for non-US citizens to form a trust with a US citizen trustee and have the US citizen trustee obtain US registration on behalf of the non-US citizen trustor. An Aircraft Owner Trust allows the purchase and registration of an aircraft with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by non-US citizens.

Non-U.S. citizens are generally not allowed to register aircraft with the FAA. When an individual or company does not meet FAA law and regulations to register an aircraft as non-U.S. citizens (does not meet the citizenship definition), owner trusts can be used to allow for registration, and are referred to:
